Bloomers

Peaches Geldof has been spotted in a pair along with Alexa Chung and Kate Moss and when Topshop starts selling a such tricky style in a wide selection of colours and fabrics, you know it's time you stood up and took heed. Now how to wear the less than attractively named bloomers? With confidence for one, a pair of youthful and preferably waif-like legs and lastly a moderate disregard for normal levels of modesty. If you pass all those criteria, congratulations: give yourself a slap on the back to regurgitate yet more food (preferably near a toilet). If not, join the club...you are normal.

The only way these can be 'got away with' for the normal British woman is with thick and heavy duty opaques that only M&S are capable of. But that's just not on for summer is it? So thanks Mr Dolce & Mr Gabbana, and you Mr Gautier - but if you were a woman you would understand the anatomical improbability that these micro shorts will flatter even 5% of the population and keep them in a box in the design studio marked 'haha' or 'pantomime'. Buy a maxi dress instead perhaps?

Barbie jewellery

Margaux Lange's jewellery created entirely from Barbie doll parts. After spending your childhood accessorising Barbie, now she accesorises you. A little bit creepy but very cool. Personal favourites are the shoe bracelet & boob heart necklace.

Costume Institute Gala at the Met

What happened to the days when celebrities would wear the most outrageous couture? They seem to be playing it safe in 2010..

Jessica Alba in Sophie Theallet for Gap

Nicole Richie in Marc Jacobs

Phillip Lim & Alexa Chung in 3.1 Phillip Lim

Sarah Jessica Parker in Halston Heritage

Marion Cotillard in Dior

Tom Ford in his own design

Rachel Weisz in Oscar de la Renta

J Lo in Zuhair Murad

Usher in Tom Ford (almost identical to Tom Ford himself.. embarrassing) & Tamara Mellon

Blake Lively in Marchesa

Doutzen Kroes in Zac Posen, with Zac Posen

P Diddy in Dries Van Noten

Emma Watson in Burberry

Pictures: style.com.

Everybody seems to be sticking to nude/beige/cream tones, still slightly more exciting than this year's blase Oscar dresses though. Loving the mens' suits most of all.

OBJECT OF DESIRE: Denim and cream tassels

See by Chloe leather and denim moccasins, £160 @ Net-a-Porter

These encapsulate just about everything I look for in a pair of shoes - those cream leather tassels do something to me that an inanimate object really should not. ASOS / Zara / any other shameless designer translation service, please take note. In thick, and I'd recommend permanent, red pen.

Object of Desire: KNOTTED LOVE

This is what I want. Right now. Sorry to be so demanding but with that much rope there's bound to be some cross words.

Cheshire Street's Comfort Station is the bearer of such gifts, with the geographical co-ordinates of villages called 'love' and 'hope' etched into the gold plated fastner tube. Love in the Bahamas, Hope in Devon dontchaknow?

Curtain pulls a go-go, I'd like one on my wrist. Forget tying back your curtains, take a tip from the kids on the street and hang it round your neck, the chunkier and more regal the better.

CUSTOM NIKES

I am always on the lookout for new trainers. Both my Nike Airs and Reebok Classic high tops are beyond salvaging. But my problem is that I'm too fussy. They have to be perfect and I can never find anything I like. So when I came across HappyCash Fashion you can imagine how thrilled I was.

Run by Anthony, he refashions Nike Dunks with a variety of designs and even takes custom orders. He says "First I have to prep the areas of the shoe I want to paint on, this takes away the factory finish that protects the leather. By doing this I can get right down to the leather and use special acrylic paint that binds with the shoe. For any outline detail on the design I first pencil it lightly then go over in sharpie to get a nice bold outline. I then paint inside the detail areas with extreme care. Once the prepping/painting process is complete I go over the whole shoe with a either a matt finisher or I just leave it for a gloss look. Voila! Lace up, box up, ship to the customer."

There's nothing quite as self-affirming as owning a sick pair of custom trainers. Check out Anthony's Tumblr for more of his designs.

Eyjafjallajokull Style... Yes Really

A volcano errupts and nigh-on chaos ensues. Well yeah, ash is a-spouting, planes are grounded and there's a strange and seemingly unwritten competition on the news for who can have the most adventurous journey home. A cab fare from Moscow to the deep depths of Poland for £1500? Status Quo my friends, I think you've been diddled.

What it does throw up however is some pretty visually arresting shots of the ongoing eruptions at Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull. With possibly the best, slash, most unpronounceable name known to man, these images hosted on Flickr capture the twisted beauty of the 'act of God' causing so much chaos back on Blighty.

Intergalactic styling with apocalyptic undertones. Oh my didn't the late Alexander McQueen have an uncannily familiar vision not long ago?

Even the high street was in on this flash fowarding malarkey, with River Island getting all galactic first.

So fashion can predict current affairs and natural disasters now? Fascinating.

Excuse me while I get my palm read and donate some money to the shrine of Topshop; it may just pay off.
